The rehabilitation division of the Mennonite Christian Hospital (MCH) provides orthotic and prosthetic services and assistive device assessment and technology to the Hualien city and surrounding area since 2003. These services were spearheaded through a cooperation with the National Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center through the National Science Council. (This Center is now called Rehabilitation Engineering Research Center, RERC, at the National Taiwan University).

The Assistive Technology Center services include assistive device assessment and technology and the design, fabrication and fit of orthoses and prostheses. The Center received the 2011 Symbol of National Quality—Safety and Quality.

International Level Orthotic Prosthetic Clinicians and Supervision
The Assistive Technology Center is supervised and trained by American Board Certified prosthetist/orthotists. Supporting staff are locally licensed physical therapists and locally licensed prosthetic/orthotic clinicians.

Orthotic and Prosthetic Services
The Assistive Technology Center services is inclusive, but not limited to.

• Assessment, design, fabrication, and fit of upper extremity orthotics, spinal orthotics, and lower extremity orthotics.
• Assessment, design, fabrication and fit of upper extremity prosthetics and lower extremity prosthetics.
• Diabetic Foot and Wound Care Clinic in cooperation with cosmetic surgery department.
• Assessment, measurement and consultation of wheelchairs, wheelchair seating, assistive devices, and medically prescribed beds.
• Therapy support of orthotic and prothetic use—muscle strengthening, range of motion, balance training, gait training, stairs, transfers, activities of daily living.
